Period bindings. Expected edgewear, joints secure, text blocks sound, pages clean. Tiny dampstains to a few pages in two volumes, not affecting text, light worming to two volumes, very clean. WARRING STATES (GE) HALBERD

The chinese halberd was a weapon of choice in the warring states period in China, and is better known as a (GE). These weapons were mounted on a long pole and could be used as a spear or axe, this peice has been authenticated by Mr. Ou Pu, a recognized dealer and appraiser of ancient chinese weaponry. He has identified this piece as a "BA" (GE) as depicted by the facial figure of a "BA" warrior pre 300 B.C. on the face of the weapon.

With two canceled Theodore Roosevelt five-cent stamps postmarked April 18, 1928. Will Rogers (1879-1935). American humorist, actor, and writer, born on Oologah, Indian Territory (now part of Oklahoma). His full name is William Penn Adair Rogers. He made his vaudeville debut with a rope-throwing act in New York City in 1905 and later achieved wide popularity through the humorous monologues with which he accompanied his rope tricks. After 1914 Rogers appeared in several of the annual Ziegfeld Follies in New York City. He also acted in numerous motion pictures and wrote a series of syndicated newspaper articles in which he poked fun at the great figures of the day and expounded his homespun philosophy. My brother, Arthur... is in the hotel business himself... I suggest that you go around and have a talk with him.” William O. Douglas (1898-1980). In 1939, President Franklin Roosevelt nominated Douglas for an appointment to the Supreme Court for his laudable work with various federal regulatory commissions. A committed social and economic liberal, Douglas championed civil rights and supported a number of hotly debated resolutions, including the Supreme Court’s ban on school prayer (1962).... These state bonds financed "the payment of bonuses to honorably discharged Soldiers, Sailors and Marines of the World War, who were actual residents of the State at the time of their enlistment." He started his working life as an apprentice in a Union Pacific Railroad machine shop, and by 1912 was works manager of the Buick Motor Co. By 1916 he had become company president, resigning to become a director of Willys-Overland and Maxwell Motor Co.(from 1925, the Chrysler Corporation). He introduced the ‘Plymouth’ motor car and designed the first high compression engine. Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962). Diplomat and humanitarian, born in New York City, the niece of Theodore Roosevelt and the wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt, her distant cousin, whom she married in 1905. She took up extensive political work during her husband’s illness from polio, and proved herself an invaluable adviser to him when he became president.... Delegates from Japan, China, Korea, Afghanistan, Persia, India, Siam and Turkey were all in attendance. “At the first session the Japanese immediately proposed the discussion of the equality of Races and elimination of the theory of Race difference... Further the question of... Naval bases were raised and discussed by the Japanese. An oak, cedarwood & nickel plated Type 138 combined Weighing Scales & Height Measure. The Type 138 Personal scales were modified in 1898 from the cup weights which were stored on a small circular platform and place on a dish suspended by chains to this type of weight which slotted onto a storage bar and likewise slotted onto the weight rod. The model does not appear in catalogues after 1910-11. By W & T Avery Ltd., Birmingham. Formerly in the Collection of the descendants of Sir Isaac Pitman (1813-87) – inventor of phonographic short hand, at Eastcourt House near Malmesbury, Wiltshire

WILLIAM HENRY HILLIARD OIL ON CANVAS

William Henry Hilliard (American, 1836 - 1905), born in Auburn, New York, in 1836, was a painter of realistic, tonal landscapes related to the Hudson River School. He studied in New York City prior to painting in England and Scotland, then studying with Lambinet in Paris, France. Signed and dated "W.H. Hilliard, 99' Lower Left. Entitled Cattle Watering. Generally very good condition having minor retouch to the sky (visible under black light) , a small varnish inconsistency (also black light) and very subtle craquelure. The strecher and original frame are in tact. There is a secondary frame to the outside of the original frame which was added to giving the overall presentation more substance. No repairs to the canvas. Site size measuring 18 inches by 30 inches.

WELSH-STYLE STEP BACK CUPBOARD

Welch-style step back cupboard constructed of rich oak having center door with opposing shelves to either side and two shelves below resting on a base of two doors centered by a single drawer each having a carved applied molding. The lower case rests on rope turned and balustered front legs with a lower shelf. The form is consistent with many Welch cupboards of the 17th and 18th centuries. This piece is a later English reproduction dating to the lattter half of the 19th century. Mellow age to the surface. There is a small repair to the lower left trim that is shown in one of the pictures. Repair is using the existing piece glued back in to place and is barely notceable. Otherwise, this piece is in very good overall condition. Very sturdy and ready to use. 76 high x 54 wide x 17 1/2 deep

This fine Watch has good weight, covers have plenty of "Beef", even the Dust Cover. Plainly marked 14K, .585 fine on two covers. 16 SIZE OR 43 MM. The Watch has good "heft" and feels good in the hand, with that smooth soft feel of a quality Gold Watch. The hand engraving is nothing short of fabulous, and superferlous, done by the hand of a Master Engraver. It is the perfect size pocket watch to carry and makes an impression when produced. The high quality A.W.W. grade Waltham movement is in excellent condition, 17 jewels in Gold settings, adjusted, pendant set, clean highly damasceened nickel bridges. The Watch was recently serviced and timed, and keeps excellent time. It is an antique, however, and we cannot guarentee timekeeping. serial number 22600435 dates this watch to 1919.

WEI DYNASTY STONE BUDDHA SCULPTURE CHINA

Authentic Chinese stone sculpture of Buddha and four followers from the Wei dynasty (c.1532-1927 B.C.) or early Sui dynasty. The stone seems to be marble. Buddha and the four followers stand on a lotus, below the lotus are two lions. Some crack and old repairs. This is an authentic piece. Weight: 14 lb. Height: 19 ¾ inches. Width: 10 inches.

WONDERFUL PLANTER BOWL WITH CHILDREN!

What a marvelous bowl this is! The dimensions are: 10" x 7" at the bottom, 8.5" x 6" at the top. The height of the bowl alone is just under 4", with the children the height is 6.75". It was made by A.Forster & Co., Vienna, Austria, between 1899 and 1908. In 1908 the company was bought out by Wiener Kunstkeramische Werkstatte.
