Very Rare Provenance: Feigenbaum estate PAIR OF LOUIS XVI GILT BRONZE CANDLESTICKS - Antiques, Decorative Arts The fluted columnar stem is supported on a circular foot stepped with a banded molding and rising in flutes to an entrelac ring. The knob is formed by a corrugated band below a laurel wreath. The base of the candle nozzle is gadrooned and the sides is cast with alternating flutes and acanthus leaves. The separate drip pan is cast with a laurel wreath. French, circa 1770 PATEK - Antiques, Watches Refrence 96 classic Callitrava from the 1950's. this watch is in excelent working condition. The former owner had it fully serviced by Patek Philippe in Geneva before I aquired it. PORTRAIT OF MARY DOWDESWELL C.1695 BY MICHAEL DAHL - Antiques, Paintings Oil on canvas in feigned oval within rare William Kent architectural carved and gilt frame c.1740, the sides decorated with finely carved oakleaves and acorns. The reverse of the frame bears old dealer's labels with the name of the sitter, the provenance and an erroneous attribution to Highmore. The Dowdeswells are an old Gloucestershire family where they lived at Pull Court near Tewksbury from the 15th to the 19th century. Michael Dahl (1659-1743) was born in Stockholm; after studying in Paris, Rome and Frankfurt he settled in London in 1689. He soon became the best patronised portrait painter in England after Kneller. He was much employed at the Court painting many portraits. GRANT’S ELEPHANT INKWELL - Antiques, Writing Instruments (K11435) Inspiration For The Symbol Of The Republican Party (u:) Black-painted standing elephant with gilt-metal blanket that lifts to reveal a brass and glass inkpot. Historical Background This inkwell stood on President Grant’s desk in the White House, where he frequently entertained the cartoonist Thomas Nast, who had been devoted to Grant since the Civil War. When Grant was elected to the presidency in 1868, he credited his victory to two factors: “The sword of Sheridan and the pencil of Thomas Nast.” The elephant was first used as a symbol of the Republican party in a Nast cartoon published in the November 7, 1874 issue of Harper’s Weekly. The cartoon appeared before the midterm elections during Grant’s second term, when fears that he would seek election a third time raised the cry of “Caesarism” from the Democratic press... This pattern is slightly more challenging to find than many patterns of the Rose Famille decorated era. They have the traditional butterfly and peoni center decoration surrounded by a border of butterflies. The color palette is typical for the early 1800 period. This pair is in very good condition. One plate has a small belimish under the galze and one minor surface abrasion that is barely noticeable but worthy of mention. Each measures 8" by 8". PAIR OF CELADON GARDEN SEATS - Antiques, Antiques This is a near pair of Celadon garden seats dating to the turn of the 20th century. They are hexagonal in shape and in perfect condition. Very decorative accent to any environment. They are clearly from the same artist as the imagery is identical. The slight variation is that one seat has more peach tones added to the painting whereas the other is slightly more monochrome. The seats measure 21 1/2" high by 12" wide (38 1/2" diameter). Circa 1900. Wonderfully decorative items to add flair to your home. PAIR OF BIRDCAGE WINDSOR SIDE CHAIRS - Antiques, Antiques Pair of Bridcage Windsor side chairs dating to mid to late-1700's. As was typical or many period Windsor chairs, these chairs appear to have had an early red wash as there are remnants on the underside of the chiars. Strucurally they are completely original and sound. One is slightly different in color (perhaps one sat in a sunny window) but they have the exact same form to the seat and turnings to the spindles and legs. They have a full seat height of 17". PIMA INDIAN BASKET WITH ANIMAL DESIGNS - Antiques, Folk Art A beautiful over 100 years old Pima Indian basket with animal design. The basket features 8 deer figures in black devil’s claw. The coils are exceptionally tight in this basket, making it almost waterproof. The basket stands 3” tall, and measures 7" long, and 4 ½” wide. There is customary slight color variation in the black devil’s claw. PIMA INDIAN BASKET WITH GEOMETRIC DESIGN - Antiques, Folk Art A beautiful, very old Pima Indian basket with geometric design dating to the early 1900's. The stacked triangle and inverse triangle designs on both the outside and inside of the basket are done in black devil’s claw. This basket measures approximately 8 ¼” in diameter and stands 4 ¼” tall. There is a small separation or hole at the center of the basket’s bottom, and there are a few separated stitches along the rim. As with most vintage baskets, there is slight color variation. |
