Description and Provenance An attractive Late 19th Century Antique Victorian Tunbridgeware Folding Cribbage Box. The sides plain, the interior re-lined, the top decorated with marquetry cabbage roses set within the double rows of holes made to take the ivory or bone pegs used for keeping the score. In the absence of such pegs, ordinary safety matches were, and indeed still are, used for this purpose. In the English Midlands, cribbage, or crib as it is popularly known, remains a popular card game until this day, with competitive leagues and friendly matches taking place between teams of players from rival pubs.
